the Turaki faction crisis deepens as Wike threatens PDP office shutdown in Abuja

The the Turaki faction crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) intensified in Abuja after Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, warned that any office linked to rival party structures would be sealed. The warning comes amid ongoing disputes over legitimacy and control of party operations in the capital.

The dispute involving the Turaki faction is part of a wider internal struggle within the PDP over leadership recognition and control of administrative structures. Competing groups have continued to assert authority following disagreements over party conventions and leadership alignment.

The faction associated with Kabiru Tanimu Turaki has maintained that it emerged from internal party processes, while opposing structures insist on a different leadership arrangement. This has led to parallel claims over party offices and organisational authority in Abuja.

Speaking in Abuja, Nyesom Wike challenged the Turaki faction and other competing groups to operate strictly within recognised legal and party frameworks. He warned that any unauthorised use of party offices in the Federal Capital Territory would not be allowed.

He stated that any attempt by the Turaki faction or any other group to open what he described as an illegal office would result in immediate closure. Wike also extended the warning to financial institutions, stating that no bank should facilitate transactions for unrecognised party structures.

According to Wike, enforcement actions would be taken based on existing regulations governing public and party spaces within the FCT. He maintained that political party operations must align with legally recognised structures.

In response, representatives linked to the Turaki faction maintained that they are operating from a known office in Abuja and insist their structure is legitimate. They argue that internal disputes within the party are still subject to resolution through established mechanisms.

The ongoing conflict involving the Turaki faction highlights continuing instability within the PDP, particularly around issues of leadership legitimacy and organisational control. The dispute also raises broader questions about compliance with party constitutions and regulatory oversight in Nigeria’s political system.

Observers note that unresolved factional disputes could affect internal cohesion and administrative effectiveness, especially in preparation for future political activities. The role of state authorities in intra-party disputes continues to attract public and institutional scrutiny.
