Police reject ₦500m bribe in Canadian Loud drug seizure operation

Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force have carried out a major Canadian Loud seizure after intercepting suspected illicit drugs valued at about ₦7.8 billion and reportedly rejecting a ₦500 million bribe allegedly offered to compromise the operation. The police said the interception formed part of ongoing efforts to dismantle organised drug trafficking networks operating within the country.

The Canadian Loud seizure is among the largest drug-related interceptions recently announced by security authorities amid intensified anti-narcotics enforcement operations across Nigeria.

“Canadian Loud” is a street name commonly used for a potent strain of cannabis frequently trafficked through international and local distribution channels. Nigerian security agencies have in recent years increased surveillance and interdiction efforts targeting narcotics smuggling and organised drug syndicates.

Authorities have repeatedly warned that illicit drug trafficking contributes to rising insecurity, violent crimes, and public health concerns across several parts of the country.

According to the Nigeria Police Force, the Canadian Loud seizure occurred during a coordinated intelligence-led operation involving anti-narcotics operatives who intercepted a large consignment of suspected drugs believed to be linked to organised trafficking networks. Police authorities stated that suspects connected to the operation allegedly attempted to bribe officers with ₦500 million to secure the release of the seized substances and obstruct the investigation.

The police, however, rejected the offer and proceeded with the operation, maintaining custody of the recovered items and related evidence. The Canadian Loud seizure reportedly involved narcotics estimated to have a street value of approximately ₦7.8 billion based on security assessments released by the authorities.

Police officials said investigations were ongoing to identify additional suspects, distribution channels, and financial networks connected to the operation. The authorities also reiterated their commitment to strengthening anti-drug enforcement and prosecuting individuals linked to illicit narcotics trafficking under relevant Nigerian laws.

The Canadian Loud seizure highlights ongoing concerns over the scale of narcotics trafficking and the financial influence of organised criminal networks operating within Nigeria.

Security analysts note that large-scale drug trafficking operations often intersect with broader criminal activities, including money laundering and transnational organised crime. The rejection of the alleged bribe by police operatives also reinforces institutional efforts aimed at strengthening accountability and integrity within anti-crime operations.
