The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State has screened 540 aspirants for various positions ahead of the party’s local government area (LGA) and ward congresses scheduled for March 7, 2026, the state chapter said on Thursday.
The APC conducts periodic congresses to fill party positions at ward and LGA levels. These positions include chairmen, secretaries, and other executive offices within the party structure.
The process aims to establish local leadership ahead of general elections. Lagos State is preparing for its APC ward and LGA congresses later in March.
The screening exercise took place at the party’s state secretariat at Mobolaji Johnson Avenue, Ikeja, Lagos. Officials said the screening committee received 540 application forms from aspirants seeking various positions.
The party said the aspirants applied for posts in the 20 local government areas and 371 wards of Lagos State, which includes positions such as ward chairmen, ward secretaries, local government chairmen, and local government secretaries.
APC officials said all aspirants complied with documentation requirements and were cleared to contest in the congresses. The screening committee is expected to forward the list of cleared aspirants to the party’s executive council for final approval.
The Lagos APC noted that the screening aligns with its constitution and efforts to ensure transparency and fairness in the selection process.
In a statement, the Lagos State APC said, “A total of 540 aspirants across the 20 local government areas and 371 wards came forward and submitted their forms for screening as part of preparations for the congresses.”
The screening of aspirants for Lagos APC ward and LGA congresses is part of broader political party activities ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Local party leadership positions are critical to grassroots mobilisation and organisational strength for national elections.
