Borno ADC Chairman Apologises, Reinstates Key Party Committees

The Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Borno State, Umar Bolori, has apologised to party leaders and stakeholders for rejecting the state’s transitional and registration committees, Bolori said during a press briefing in Maiduguri on Tuesday.

Earlier in January, the Borno ADC had disassociated itself from transitional and registration committees established in the state by one of its chieftains, Kashim Imam, describing them as unrepresentative.

The transitional and registration committees were constituted by party authorities to organise internal structures and prepare for membership registration activities ahead of the 2027 general elections.

At the press briefing, Bolori described his previous rejection of the committees as “an error” and apologised to Imam and the ADC’s national leadership.

He acknowledged that meetings and reconciliation discussions clarified the situation and led to his change of position.

Bolori said the party now recognises and accepts the inaugurated state transitional committee led by Alhaji Ali Bukar Wurge and the registration committee led by Peter Biya.

He urged all party members and stakeholders to support the committees in carrying out their mandates.

Bolori said: “Following a series of meetings and holistic reconciliations, we were made to understand that we acted in error, and hence, we apologise to our national party leaders, particularly, H.E Kahim Ibrahim Imam and pledge our loyalty to him in the interest of our party and the general party members.”

He also said: “On this note, we officially recognise and accept the inaugurated state transitional committee under the leadership of Alhaji Ali Bukar Wurge and the registration committee under the leadership of Peter Biya accordingly.”

The apology and subsequent recognition of the committees by the Borno ADC leadership come as political parties in Nigeria prepare for increased mobilisation and organisational activities ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Internal party structures and membership drives are key components of party readiness for national contests.
