Fayose Alleges Details of Meeting Between Makinde and Atiku in Minna

Former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose has made claims about what occurred during a meeting held on Tuesday in Minna, Niger State, between Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Fayose said in a statement on Wednesday.

Fayose’s statement, titled “Between Atiku and Makinde, Untold Story of What Happened in Minna,” was shared on his verified X account and discussed a closed-door gathering involving Makinde and Atiku.

The meeting took place at the residence of former military President Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida in Minna. Public reports indicate both Makinde and Atiku held discussions there, though neither has detailed the specific agenda of the meeting.

In his statement, Fayose described the venue and participants as carefully selected, and he discussed his account of topics addressed during the meeting.

Fayose said the discussions were influenced by considerations related to the choice of a possible running mate for a future presidential election, and he included commentary on who might not be acceptable in that role according to his account.

He also commented in his statement on what he described as confidence about securing a party’s presidential ticket and on conditions he said were agreed about participation in that party.

Fayose’s statement included mention of a follow-up meeting he said has been scheduled in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, within the next two weeks.

There has been no public reaction from Makinde or Atiku to the claims as of the time of this report.

Fayose said in his statement: “It is no longer news that the Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, went to Minna, Niger State, yesterday to hold a meeting with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.”

The account by Fayose highlights claims about high-level political engagements involving senior Nigerian figures. Such meetings and public commentary about them occur as political activity continues ahead of the 2027 general elections.
