NNPP’s Galadima Cites 2015 Precedent in Warning to APC Over 2027 Elections

A chieftain of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Mr. Buba Galadima, said Nigerians demonstrated in the 2015 general election that they could remove an incumbent government over insecurity, and he suggested the same could apply to the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 polls if current conditions persist.

He spoke on Thursday during an appearance on Politics Today on Channels Television in Lagos.

Galadima was a guest on the political programme against the backdrop of ongoing national discussions about economics, security and political engagement in Nigeria.

He referenced the 2015 election, when the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) government of former President Goodluck Jonathan was voted out following security challenges, particularly the Boko Haram insurgency in the North-East region.

The 2027 general elections are scheduled to be conducted under Nigeria’s constitutional and electoral laws, and political actors across the spectrum have been commenting publicly on their expectations and concerns.

During the television programme, Galadima criticised aspects of current governance and alleged that some public commentary had led to arrests in Kano State. He warned against underestimating public sentiment.

He referred to the conduct of the electorate in 2015, pointing to the removal of Jonathan’s government as a demonstration of Nigerians’ capacity to express dissatisfaction at the ballot box.

Galadima highlighted perceived challenges in agricultural policy and rising production costs, including fertiliser prices, as part of his comments on national matters.

Galadima said, “If you can remove Jonathan’s government for a simple insecurity in the Northeast, what would you be doing to the APC government? I think we have to cut them into pieces.”

He also said, “Look at young men in Kano who go to the radio to make an opinion. They have been arrested and sent to jail. Sometimes tried in the night by judges who are forced to jail them.”

Galadima added, “This government has killed agriculture deliberately, disenfranchising farmers who are 75 per cent of the Nigerian population… You have to buy a bag of fertiliser for 60,000 naira to 70,000 naira.”

Galadima’s comments contribute to national public discourse on politics, security and economic conditions as the country prepares for the 2027 general elections.

The reference to the 2015 electoral outcome highlights a historical precedent cited in discussions about civic engagement and accountability through the ballot box.

Public statements by political figures form part of the broader national conversation on governance, voter behaviour and political expectations in Nigeria’s democratic framework
