Obi Cubana Begins Political Journey as City Boy Movement South-East Director

Renowned Nigerian entrepreneur and social figure Obi Cubana has formally begun his journey into politics with his appointment as South-East Director of the City Boy Movement (CBM), urging issue-based political engagement and greater youth participation in national affairs.

The City Boy Movement is a youth-focused political platform that was established in 2022 to support civic engagement and mobilise young Nigerians around governance issues.

The movement’s structure includes regional directors and coordinators tasked with expanding its reach and influence ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The official presentation of Cubana’s role took place in Abuja, where the Director-General of the City Boy Movement, Mr Francis Oluwatosin Shoga, handed over the guideline and flag of the CBM to him.

At the event, Cubana described his involvement in politics as a call to promote a “brand of politics” anchored in positivity, discipline and responsible communication rather than personality-driven conflict.

He emphasised that young Nigerians are the backbone of the nation and must play an active role in shaping the country’s political future.

Cubana also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his interest in youth development, noting that leadership would eventually be transferred to a new generation.

Supporters at the event highlighted the growing momentum behind his political engagement. Mr Shoga said the large turnout of supporters was a sign of the movement’s expanding influence and called for unity and increased youth participation in politics.

Cubana said: “At some point, power will be handed over, and there is no other group to hand it over to than the youth.”

Shoga said: “We are proud to have you as a leader in the South-East, and we believe a lot of things are going to change.”

Cubana’s political entry underscores a trend of prominent business figures and social influencers joining formal political engagement ahead of national elections.

It reflects broader efforts to involve young Nigerians in governance and public policy discussions at a time when youth participation is increasingly seen as vital to democratic development.
