Questions Over Enugu State’s ₦1.62tn 2026 Budget

Chief Ude Livinus has raised issues concerning the revenue framework of Enugu State’s ₦1.62 trillion 2026 budget assented to by Governor Peter Mbah.

The appropriation law projects Internally Generated Revenue of ₦870 billion for the fiscal year. Government officials have also cited daily revenue earnings of approximately ₦2.5 billion.

Livinus pointed to existing liabilities, including pension and gratuity arrears estimated at more than ₦36 billion and contractor obligations of about ₦40 billion.

He referenced statements by state revenue officials indicating that about ₦400 billion was generated by the end of 2025, noting the increase reflected in the 2026 budget estimates.

On the expenditure side, the budget provides ₦30 billion for school feeding programmes in smart schools and ₦135.5 billion for a rail development project.

Other capital commitments include the acquisition of 14 aircraft, Enugu New City development, 260 smart schools, 260 hospitals, and road construction projects exceeding 1,000.

The budget was passed by the Enugu State House of Assembly before being signed into law. No detailed breakdown explaining the revenue projections has been released at the time of filing this report.
