Former Minister of Youth and Sports Development Solomon Dalung has said the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has many people capable of challenging President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election, speaking on the Sunday Politics programme on Channels Television on Sunday.
Dalung made the comments amid discussions about political alignments and opposition strategies ahead of the 2027 general elections in Nigeria.
The ADC is an opposition political party that has drawn prominent figures since it became the platform for a coalition of several politicians.
The 2027 presidential contest is shaping up with multiple political parties and figures indicating interest in competing for the nation’s highest office.
Dalung said that the ADC includes a number of politicians whom he sees as capable of mounting a challenge in the 2027 elections.
He made the comments during an appearance on Sunday Politics, a political programme aired on Channels Television.
Dalung referenced the calibre of political figures affiliated with the ADC, including former national leaders and former governors associated with the party.
He said the party plans to conduct a transparent primary and that whoever emerges as the candidate would have the support of party members.
Dalung said: “So I think we have so many people to challenge Tinubu.”
He added: “We are going to conduct a transparent primary, and we have also resolved that whoever wins a transparent primary will be the person all of us support to challenge Tinubu.”
Dalung’s remarks highlight activity within the ADC as political parties and figures position themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections. Discussions about presidential candidacies and party primaries are part of the evolving national political landscape.
