Zulum Projects Over 2 million Registered APC Members in Borno

Maiduguri, Borno State — Governor Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum has projected that more than two million people in Borno State could be registered as members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) under the party’s digital membership registration exercise, saying the effort will bolster internal democracy and political participation ahead of national elections.

Zulum made the projection on Sunday shortly after he collected his APC digital membership card at the flag‑off event held at the APC state secretariat in Maiduguri.

At the event, Zulum was presented with his membership card by the Borno State APC Chairman, Bello Ayuba, after registering through an agent from his ward, Aiari Unit 003. Also registered and honoured with membership cards were Deputy Governor Umar Usman Kadafur and APC Deputy National Chairman, Ali Bukar Dalori.

Speaking after the registration process, Zulum emphasised the importance of strengthening internal party democracy and encouraged APC members across the state to embrace the commission’s e‑platform to expand the party’s membership base.

“Strengthening internal democracy is key to a stable democracy, and therefore I call on all members of our party to register via the e‑platform.

Let us expand our membership. I believe Borno State can register more than two million people for the APC. I want all critical stakeholders to work assiduously to ensure the success of this registration exercise,” the governor said.

The APC digital membership card initiative seeks to create a verifiable and centralised database of party members nationwide.

The project is designed to enhance internal democracy, improve communication within party structures, and promote more effective political engagement as the party prepares for future elections, including the 2027 general polls.

Reacting to the governor’s projection, Ayuba thanked Zulum for his proactive leadership and mobilisation efforts, praising his continued support for the party’s growth and organisational reforms.

He said the governor’s active participation in the exercise exemplifies commitment to strengthening APC’s grassroots presence in the state.

The flag‑off was attended by key political figures, including the Chief Whip of the Senate, Mohammed Tahir Moguno, Senators Mohammed Ali Ndume and Kaka Shehu Lawan (SAN), as well as Bukar Talba, member representing Marte, Monguno and Nganzai Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives;

the Speaker of the Borno State House of Assembly, Abdulkarim Lawan; Secretary to the State Government Malam Bukar Tijani; the acting Chief of Staff Dr. Babagana Mallumbe; commissioners and other government officials.

Political analysts say the digital membership registration is a strategic effort by the APC to consolidate party structures and improve internal accountability.

By establishing a comprehensive digital registry, the party aims to minimise parallel memberships and ensure credible participation in internal primaries and candidate selections, which will be critical in shaping party fortunes ahead of the 2027 electoral calendar.

Zulum’s projection underscores the APC’s efforts to deepen its organisational framework and reinforce its support base in Borno State, long regarded as a key stronghold of the party in the North‑East.

Further developments in the APC’s membership drive and its potential impact on party cohesion and electoral mobilisation are expected to unfold as the digital registration exercise continues across the state.
