Kwankwaso: “No Talks with APC or Tinubu Over Defection,” Kwankwassiya Movement Says

Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and leaders of the Kwankwassiya movement have said there are no negotiations or talks with the All-Progressives Congress (APC) or President Bola Ahmed Tinubu regarding the defection of Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to the ruling party. The clarification was provided in a statement issued by the movement’s leadership.

Governor Yusuf defected from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to the APC in late January.

The move sparked political debate and widespread public attention, including reactions from Kwankwaso, a leading figure in the NNPP and the Kwankwassiya political movement that helped deliver electoral victories for the party in Kano.

Following the defection, speculation emerged in some quarters about possible discussions between Kwankwaso and the APC leadership. The movement’s statement directly addressed these reports.

In the statement, Kwankwaso and the Kwankwassiya movement said there have been no discussions, negotiations or contacts with the APC leadership, including President Tinubu or other senior party officials, regarding Governor Yusuf’s defection or any related political realignment.

The movement said it continues to engage with its supporters and stakeholders independently.

The Kwankwassiya leadership reiterated that its focus remains on maintaining the political ideals and support base of the movement, asserting that any speculation about negotiations with the APC is unfounded.

The group said its activities are guided by internal consultations and engagements with its constituency.

In the statement, Kwankwaso and the Kwankwassiya leadership said: “There are no negotiations on the defection of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf with anyone, including the APC leadership or President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”

The clarification from Kwankwaso and the Kwankwassiya movement addresses circulating public narratives following Governor Yusuf’s defection to the APC.

By dismissing reports of negotiations with ruling party leaders, the statement aims to set the record straight on the movement’s position and strategic orientation amid shifting political alignments in Kano and at the national level.

Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and the leadership of the Kwankwassiya movement have said there are no talks or negotiations with the APC or President Tinubu regarding the defection of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.

The statement reinforces the movement’s independent political stance in the evolving political landscape.
