A youth group in Kogi State has donated ₦100 million to support the procurement of the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential nomination form for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The donation was announced on Saturday during an event in Lokoja.
The procurement of a party’s presidential nomination form is part of internal arrangements within political parties ahead of national elections.
The APC, as Nigeria’s ruling party, will conduct processes to choose its standard-bearer for the 2027 general election. President Tinubu is a member of the APC and has indicated intentions to seek his party’s nomination.
Youth groups and political support organisations often mobilise resources as part of grassroots party activities. Such contributions are reported by party officials and organisers.
The Kogi Youth Vanguard (KYV), described by organisers as a non-governmental group, presented the cash donation during a ceremony in Lokoja. The event was attended by party members, youth leaders, and supporters.
Mr. Simon Angu, convener of the KYV, said the donation was intended to support President Tinubu’s nomination process within the APC. According to Angu, the youths mobilised resources from individuals and groups across Kogi State for the contribution.
Among the attendees at the presentation were youth representatives from the three senatorial districts in Kogi State. They received the cash in what organisers described as a patriotic exercise.
Mr. Angu said, “We bring this donation from Kogi youths, saying that with this amount, we believe it will assist in securing the presidential nomination form for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the forthcoming primaries.”
The donation by the Kogi youth group reflects grassroots political engagement within the APC ahead of its internal nomination processes. Contributions from interest groups and supporters are part of internal party dynamics as aspirants and candidates prepare for primaries.
Such activities occur within the context of Nigeria’s democratic processes, where political parties organise nominations and primaries to select candidates for national elections.
