Dauda Lawal, the Governor of Zamfara State, has announced his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The announcement was made on Monday at the Government House in Gusau by the Deputy Governor, Mani Mallam Mummuni, who represented the governor during the declaration.
According to Mummuni, the decision followed extensive consultations with political stakeholders across the state.
He said the move was endorsed during a stakeholders’ meeting held at the Rescue Hall in the Government House, Gusau.
The deputy governor explained that the consultations were part of a broader engagement initiated by the governor to assess the political situation in the state before reaching a final decision on the party switch.
Lawal was elected governor of Zamfara State in the 2023 governorship election on the platform of the PDP before his latest defection to the APC.
The development marks a significant political change in the state’s leadership alignment as the governor officially joins the ruling party at the national level.
