Gawuna Joins ADC, Pledges Loyalty to Kwankwaso in Kano

The 2023 governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress in Kano State, Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna joins ADC (African Democratic Congress) and declared loyalty to Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso during his registration in Kano.

The defection comes amid ongoing political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Kano State remains a key political stronghold in northern Nigeria, with major parties and influential figures repositioning for future contests.

The development that Gawuna joins ADC follows recent moves by Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, who has also aligned with the African Democratic Congress and directed his supporters to register with the party nationwide.

Gawuna previously served as deputy governor of Kano State and contested the 2023 governorship election under the APC, making his defection a notable shift within the state’s political structure.

Confirming the development, Gawuna joins ADC after submitting his resignation from the APC in a letter addressed to his ward chairman in Nassarawa Local Government Area of Kano State. He described the decision as voluntary.

Following his resignation, he proceeded to register with the ADC in his ward, in the presence of Kwankwaso and supporters of the Kwankwasiyya Movement.

During the registration, Gawuna pledged loyalty to Kwankwaso, stating that his commitment remains firm and that loyalty goes beyond public displays.

The event also drew participation from party members and stakeholders mobilising support for the ADC in Kano.

Statements and Political MessagingAt the event, Kwankwaso urged members of the party to remain law-abiding and committed to democratic processes.

He emphasised the need for credible participation in elections and encouraged supporters to register and obtain their voter cards.

The development that Gawuna joins ADC reflects coordinated mobilisation efforts aimed at strengthening the party’s grassroots presence.

Kwankwaso also called on party members to expand outreach efforts and engage more citizens in political participation ahead of the elections.

The move that Gawuna joins ADC is expected to influence political alignments in Kano State.

As a former deputy governor and governorship candidate, Gawuna brings political structure and visibility that may impact party dynamics.

His defection adds to the growing presence of the ADC in Kano, indicating increased competition among political parties ahead of the 2027 elections.

Observers note that shifts involving established figures could affect voter mobilisation and party strategies in the state.

The development also reflects wider political movements across Nigeria, where leaders and stakeholders are reassessing alliances and platforms.

The African Democratic Congress has recently attracted attention as a platform for coalition-building and political repositioning.

The entry of figures like Gawuna is expected to strengthen its organisational structure and expand its reach.
