Wike PDP Faction Holds NEC Meeting as Leaders Push Unity, Discipline Ahead of 2027

Wike PDP faction NEC meeting has been convened in Abuja, as leaders aligned with Nyesom Wike intensified calls for unity, discipline, and structural consolidation within the Peoples Democratic Party ahead of the 2027 general elections. The NEC meeting comes against the backdrop of a prolonged leadership dispute within the Peoples Democratic Party, which has seen the emergence of rival factions contesting control of party structures.

The faction backed by Nyesom Wike has maintained that it represents the legitimate leadership of the party following its national convention earlier in 2026. The crisis has drawn institutional attention, with the Independent National Electoral Commission previously recognising a factional leadership structure, underscoring the depth of the internal divisions.

At the Wike PDP faction NEC meeting, party leaders emphasised the need for internal cohesion as preparations for the 2027 elections gather momentum. Speaking at a related leadership gathering, Board of Trustees Chairman Senator Mao Ohuabunwa called on members to prioritise unity and adhere strictly to party rules.

“Unity must now be our watchword,” he said, urging members to close ranks and move forward together. The faction also reiterated that reconciliation remains open to aggrieved members but stressed that such efforts must be guided by discipline and loyalty to party decisions.

National Chairman Mohammed Abdulrahman Takushara stated that internal grievances should be resolved through constitutional channels rather than public disputes. “Internal grievances must be channelled through the proper constitutional organs,” he said.

The Wike PDP faction NEC discussions also highlighted ongoing reforms within the party, including digital registration initiatives aimed at strengthening membership systems and improving internal transparency. Leaders further indicated that preparations for 2027 are already underway, with focus on grassroots mobilisation and data-driven political engagement strategies.

The Wike PDP faction NEC meeting reflects ongoing efforts by one bloc of the party to consolidate authority and reposition ahead of the next electoral cycle.

It also highlights the broader challenge facing opposition parties in Nigeria, where internal cohesion and institutional legitimacy remain critical to electoral competitiveness. The outcome of the party’s internal processes may influence its ability to present a unified front in future elections.
