Reps Laud Tinubu Over ₦700bn Osun Road Project Approvals

The Osun road project has received praise from five members of the House of Representatives following federal approval of infrastructure projects valued at about ₦700bn across key road corridors in Osun State. The project approvals were announced in connection with Federal Executive Council decisions covering major rehabilitation and construction works aimed at improving transport infrastructure in the state.

The project is part of a wider federal infrastructure programme targeting road rehabilitation and expansion across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones. The Federal Executive Council has in recent months approved several large-scale projects aimed at addressing long-standing road deterioration and improving inter-state connectivity.

In Osun State, priority has been placed on strategic highways linking commercial and administrative centres within the Southwest region. These roads are considered critical for trade, mobility, and regional economic integration. The project approvals also align with national infrastructure planning efforts that prioritise transportation networks as key drivers of economic growth and development.

The federal approvals include major road projects such as the Osogbo–Akoda–Gbongan road and the Osogbo–Iwo–Ibadan corridor. The Osogbo–Akoda–Gbongan project is valued at about ₦101bn, while the Osogbo–Iwo–Ibadan road is estimated at approximately ₦114bn. These projects form part of the broader Osun road project interventions approved by the Federal Executive Council.

The Osun road project is included within a nationwide infrastructure package worth over ₦7tn, covering roads, bridges, and related transport infrastructure across Nigeria. These approvals were part of decisions taken at recent Federal Executive Council meetings involving multiple ministries and agencies responsible for infrastructure delivery.

Five members of the House of Representatives representing constituencies in Osun State commended the federal government for the approvals. They stated that the Osun road project would improve road safety, reduce travel time, and enhance economic activity across the state.

The lawmakers further noted that improved road networks under the Osun road project would support agricultural supply chains, facilitate movement of goods, and strengthen connectivity between rural and urban centres.

The road project is expected to significantly impact transportation efficiency within the state and surrounding regions. Improved road conditions are likely to reduce logistics costs and enhance access to markets for businesses and agricultural producers.

The project also has implications for regional integration in the Southwest, where inter-state trade relies heavily on road transportation. Enhanced infrastructure under the Osun road project may contribute to economic expansion by improving mobility and reducing transport bottlenecks.

At the national level, the approvals reflect continued federal focus on infrastructure as a key component of economic development strategy, particularly in addressing critical road networks across the country.
