APM Endorses Makinde as Best Consensus Candidate for 2027 Opposition Coalition

The Lagos State chapter of the Allied People’s Movement (APM) has thrown its support behind Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, describing him as the most suitable Makinde consensus candidate for the opposition coalition ahead of the 2027 presidential election. The party said Makinde possesses the leadership qualities, governance experience and national appeal needed to unite opposition forces and present Nigerians with a credible alternative in the next general election.

In a statement issued by the party’s Lagos State Publicity Secretary, Ayodele Kazeem, the APM said its endorsement was based on Makinde’s record in office rather than political sentiment.

According to Kazeem, the Oyo State governor has demonstrated prudent leadership through investments in road infrastructure, healthcare, education, agriculture and security while maintaining improved fiscal management and economic growth. He added that Makinde’s administration has consistently projected policies aimed at expanding the state’s economy and increasing internally generated revenue through infrastructure development and investment.

The party argued that Nigeria requires a president with proven executive experience and responsible management of public resources. According to the statement, Makinde has shown that government can deliver visible development projects while maintaining fiscal discipline and avoiding unnecessary extravagance. APM also described the governor as a leader capable of making difficult decisions while remaining accessible to citizens.

Highlighting his national appeal, the party said Makinde enjoys goodwill across political parties and has built relationships that cut across regional and political divides. Kazeem described him as a consensus builder whose calm disposition and inclusive leadership style make him well suited to unite opposition parties.

The party added that unlike politicians with regional influence, the Makinde consensus candidate possesses the credibility and temperament to attract nationwide support. According to APM, any opposition coalition seeking victory in 2027 must prioritise electability alongside popularity by presenting a candidate capable of building a broad national alliance.

The Lagos chapter of the party also pledged to play an active role in strengthening the opposition coalition’s campaign structure across the state. It disclosed that its governorship candidate, Prince Laja Adeoye, has begun coordinating grassroots mobilisation efforts across Lagos’ 20 local government areas and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs).

The mobilisation strategy includes strengthening polling-unit structures, expanding volunteer networks, encouraging voter registration and Permanent Voter Card (PVC) collection, deploying digital campaign platforms, training election agents and engaging community organisations, transport unions, market associations and faith-based groups. According to the party, the initiative is designed to contribute more than five million votes to the opposition coalition during the 2027 presidential election while promoting issue-based politics focused on national development.
