Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed has ordered security agencies to intensify the fight against illegal mining Bauchi, declaring that anyone involved in unlawful mining activities must face prosecution regardless of their status or relationship to him. The governor stressed that no individual would receive special treatment, insisting that “not even my son is above the law.”
Mohammed made the declaration on Tuesday while receiving the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division of the Nigerian Army and Commander of Operation Safe Haven, Major General Maxwell Dangana, at the Government House in Bauchi.
He identified illegal mining activities in Alkaleri Local Government Area and surrounding border communities as one of the major factors fueling insecurity and banditry in the state. According to the governor, the enormous financial rewards associated with illicit mining have attracted influential individuals, but warned that no one should be permitted to operate outside the law.
The governor praised President Bola Tinubu, the Chief of Army Staff and the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, for their swift response following a recent security breach in Alkaleri.
He said the prompt intervention helped restore confidence among residents and demonstrated the importance of coordinated security operations. Mohammed also described security as essential for economic growth and investment, pledging continued logistical support for security agencies, including the provision of operational vehicles.
As part of efforts to tackle illegal mining Bauchi, the governor called for closer collaboration among the military, local government councils and traditional institutions. He emphasized the need for improved intelligence sharing and stronger border surveillance to curb criminal activities and dismantle networks linked to illegal mining and banditry.
Earlier, Major General Dangana commended the Bauchi State Government for its sustained support for military operations across the state. He appealed to the governor to construct the strategic Mansur-Duguri road in Alkaleri Local Government Area, explaining that the project would significantly improve troop mobility and reduce response time during security operations.
The Army commander reaffirmed the military’s commitment to dismantling criminal groups and restoring lasting peace across Bauchi State through continued collaboration with relevant stakeholders.
