EFCC Declares Former Pension Task Team Chairman Abdulrasheed Maina Wanted

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has declared former Chairman of the defunct Pension Reform Task Team, Abdulrasheed Abdullahi Maina, wanted.

The anti-graft agency announced this in a notice signed by its Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, and published on its official X account on Wednesday.

According to the EFCC, Maina is wanted in connection with an alleged case involving the receipt of stolen property.

“The public is hereby notified that Abdulrasheed Abdullahi Maina, whose photograph appears above, is wanted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in an alleged case of Receiving Stolen Properties,” the commission stated.

The agency appealed to members of the public with information about Maina’s whereabouts to assist investigators.

The EFCC listed its offices in Ibadan, Uyo, Sokoto, Maiduguri, Benin, Makurdi, Kaduna, Ilorin, Enugu, Kano, Lagos, Gombe, Port Harcourt and Abuja as locations where information could be provided.

The commission also provided a telephone contact and email address for members of the public who may have relevant information. It further advised anyone with useful information to contact the nearest police station or other security agencies.

Maina, 61, is an indigene of Biu in Borno State.

His latest wanted notice comes against the backdrop of his previous prosecution over alleged financial crimes.

In 2020, Maina was extradited to Nigeria after being arrested in Niamey, Niger Republic, following his reported departure from the country while on bail.

He had earlier been declared wanted by an Abuja High Court in connection with his money laundering trial.

At the time, Maina was facing prosecution over allegations involving about ₦2 billion.

The former pension task team chairman had been standing trial over alleged money laundering before his extradition to Nigeria in 2020.

The EFCC’s latest notice, however, identifies an alleged case of receiving stolen property as the basis for declaring him wanted.

The commission has urged anyone who knows his current whereabouts to provide the information through its listed offices, contact channels or the appropriate security authorities.
