The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kebbi State has accused the Federal Government of using judicial processes to intimidate opposition politicians, alleging that former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, is being targeted because of his reported governorship ambition ahead of the 2027 elections. The Malami persecution claims were contained in a statement jointly signed by the Kebbi State Chairman of the ADC, Sufiyanu Bala, and party chieftain, Alhaji Shehu Aliyu Sambawa.
According to the party, the alleged actions against Malami form part of a wider strategy aimed at weakening opposition parties at both the federal and state levels. The ADC claimed that influential opposition figures were being discouraged from contesting future elections through what it described as politically motivated judicial actions. The party specifically alleged that Malami was facing judicial persecution intended to pressure him into abandoning his reported governorship ambition in Kebbi State.
The ADC further alleged that recent legal actions involving the seizure of assets linked to the former justice minister were politically driven. According to the party, the measures were designed to intimidate Malami and undermine his political aspirations ahead of the 2027 governorship election. The statement also accused the Kebbi State Government of attempting to frustrate Malami’s political plans through various forms of intimidation.
Despite the alleged pressure, the ADC maintained that Malami would continue pursuing his governorship ambition. The party expressed confidence that no level of political or judicial intimidation would prevent him from participating in the 2027 election. It also reaffirmed its commitment to supporting its members and said it remained undeterred by what it described as judicial and political persecution.
While raising the Malami persecution claims, the ADC stated that it believed the courts would ultimately deliver justice in matters involving its members. The party said it remained optimistic that due legal processes would prevail despite what it described as attempts to intimidate opposition figures.
As of the time of filing the report, neither the Federal Government nor the Kebbi State Government had responded to the allegations made by the ADC. Similarly, there was no immediate official reaction from the relevant authorities regarding the party’s claims of political intimidation or the alleged judicial targeting of the former Attorney-General.
