The House of Representatives has commenced an investigation into the stalled ₦365 million National Library project located in Taraba State.

The lawmakers raised concerns over the abandonment of the federally funded project and the circumstances surrounding the delay in its completion.

The National Library project in Taraba was initiated as part of federal government efforts to expand access to library services and promote reading culture across the country.

However, the project has remained incomplete despite funds reportedly allocated for its execution.

Members of the House expressed concern that several federal projects across different states have suffered delays or abandonment after funds were approved.

The lawmakers stated that the Taraba library project has become one of the cases requiring legislative scrutiny to determine what led to the halt in construction.

The investigation was initiated through the relevant committee of the House of Representatives, which was tasked with examining the status of the project and identifying the reasons for its non-completion.

Lawmakers said the probe would focus on how the ₦365 million allocated for the project was utilised, the stage the construction reached before it stopped, and the roles played by the contractors and supervising government agencies.

The committee is also expected to invite officials of the National Library of Nigeria and other relevant stakeholders to provide explanations regarding the stalled project.

Lawmakers stated that the investigation is aimed at ensuring accountability and determining the circumstances that led to the abandonment of the project.

They also emphasised the need to ensure that public funds appropriated for development projects are properly utilised.

The probe reflects ongoing legislative efforts to address abandoned federal projects across Nigeria.

Lawmakers have repeatedly expressed concern that incomplete infrastructure projects undermine development and reduce the impact of government spending on communities.

By examining the Taraba National Library project, the House of Representatives said it intends to ensure transparency and promote accountability in the execution of public projects funded by the federal government.
