Tinubu says youth reforms will expand opportunities in tech, sports, agriculture

President Bola Tinubu has said ongoing youth reforms under his administration are designed to expand opportunities for young Nigerians in technology, agriculture, sports, and other productive sectors as the Federal Government marks the third anniversary of the administration.

The comments on youth reforms were made as the Tinubu administration highlighted programmes and policy initiatives introduced since assuming office in May 2023.

Youth unemployment, skills development, access to finance, and economic participation have remained central policy issues in Nigeria due to the country’s growing youth population and increasing demand for job opportunities. The Federal Government has repeatedly stated that investment in innovation, agriculture, entrepreneurship, and sports development forms part of its long-term strategy for economic growth and social stability.

Speaking during activities marking the administration’s third anniversary, Tinubu said the ongoing youth reforms are intended to equip young Nigerians with skills and opportunities capable of improving productivity and reducing unemployment. The President identified technology, agriculture, and sports as strategic sectors with strong potential for youth engagement and economic expansion.

According to him, government programmes are being structured to encourage innovation, digital training, agricultural participation, and talent development among Nigerian youths. He also state that the reforms would support entrepreneurship and help young people participate more actively in the economy through targeted initiatives and sector-based interventions.

The President noted that technology remains an important area for job creation and innovation, while agriculture continues to offer opportunities for food production, agribusiness, and rural employment. The President also referenced sports development as a sector capable of creating careers, promoting national unity, and supporting economic activities linked to entertainment and talent management.

The remarks on youth reforms come amid broader efforts by the Federal Government to address economic pressures and expand employment opportunities following recent economic reforms introduced by the administration. Government officials maintain that ongoing policies are aimed at building long-term economic resilience and improving participation of young Nigerians in productive sectors.

The emphasis on youth reforms reflects increasing government attention on employment generation and youth participation in national development.

Analysts say sustained investment in technology, agriculture, and sports could help expand economic opportunities if supported by infrastructure, financing, and implementation capacity. The development also highlights the growing role of youth-focused programmes in shaping economic and social policy discussions in Nigeria.
