Visible projects campaign to shape Tinubu’s 2027 election strategy

A visible projects campaign is expected to play a central role in President Bola Tinubu’s re-election strategy ahead of the 2027 general elections, according to reports outlining plans by members of the presidential communication team. The approach focuses on showcasing completed and ongoing infrastructure projects across the country rather than relying primarily on conventional political messaging. The emerging visible projects campaign strategy is aimed at countering opposition narratives through demonstrable government projects.

Preparations for the 2027 elections are gradually intensifying as political parties and government officials position themselves ahead of formal campaign activities expected to be announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Within the Tinubu administration, recent engagements by members of the presidential media team and the Renewed Hope Ambassadors have focused on highlighting infrastructure development and federal-state partnerships across several regions.

The evolving visible projects campaign approach reflects increasing emphasis on governance outcomes as a political communication strategy in an environment where public trust in campaign promises has weakened.

According to Vanguard, the strategy being developed by the presidential team centres on encouraging Nigerians to evaluate the administration based on projects “they can see and touch.”

The report stated that campaign planners intend to rely on visible infrastructure and social investments, including roads, rail projects, public facilities, agricultural programmes, and healthcare initiatives.

One of the projects highlighted is the Kano-Maradi railway project, which officials from the Federal Ministry of Transportation reportedly said has exceeded 60 per cent completion. The railway project is being presented as part of broader regional integration and trade facilitation efforts linking northern Nigeria with neighbouring Niger Republic.

The report also noted that state governments have continued to reference increased federal allocations following fuel subsidy removal as a factor supporting infrastructure expansion and public works projects. In Kaduna State, officials reportedly showcased road rehabilitation, school upgrades, hospital projects, and rural electrification initiatives during visits by members of the presidential media team.

Jigawa State authorities also reportedly highlighted investments in agriculture, youth empowerment, and vocational training centres designed to support entrepreneurship and reduce unemployment.

The administration’s strategy further relies on cooperation between federal and state governments to ensure projects are completed and remain visible to citizens. Analysts note that the visible projects campaign may become a defining element of political messaging ahead of the elections.

The growing focus on a visible projects campaign reflects a broader shift toward performance-based political communication within Nigeria’s electoral landscape.

Political observers note that infrastructure visibility and public service delivery may increasingly influence voter perception ahead of the 2027 elections. The strategy could also intensify competition between political parties over governance records, project execution, and public accountability.
