Ogun PDP Unveils Sowunmi-Kolapo as Adebutu’s Running Mate for 2027

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State has formally presented Dr. Yemi Sowunmi-Kolapo as the deputy governorship candidate to partner with Oladipupo Adebutu in the 2027 governorship election. The announcement marked a major step in the party’s election preparations, with leaders and supporters expressing confidence that the Sowunmi-Kolapo running mate ticket would strengthen the party’s chances at the polls.

The unveiling ceremony took place at the PDP State Secretariat and attracted party leaders, stakeholders, youth groups, women organisations and supporters from across Ogun State.

Speaking during the event, Adebutu described Dr. Sowunmi-Kolapo as a competent and experienced politician whose emergence followed extensive consultations among party stakeholders. He said the Sowunmi-Kolapo running mate ticket reflects the party’s commitment to competence, inclusiveness and effective leadership. Adebutu stated that the combination of experience, vision and grassroots appeal offered Ogun residents a credible alternative capable of addressing the state’s socio-economic challenges.

The governorship candidate pledged that a PDP administration would prioritise job creation, industrial growth, improved infrastructure and policies aimed at improving the welfare of residents.

Also speaking, PDP State Chairman, Dr. Abayomi Tella, said the selection of Dr. Sowunmi-Kolapo demonstrates the party’s determination to field capable candidates for the election. Tella urged party members to remain united and intensify mobilisation efforts across all 20 local government areas, expressing confidence that the Sowunmi-Kolapo running mate ticket would secure victory through sustained engagement with voters.

In her acceptance remarks, Dr. Sowunmi-Kolapo thanked the party leadership and members for the confidence reposed in her. She described her nomination as a call to greater service and pledged loyalty to the party and its governorship candidate.

Sowunmi-Kolapo said the PDP ticket presents an opportunity to deliver people-focused governance centred on economic growth, youth empowerment, quality education, healthcare and infrastructure development. “Our mission is to restore hope to the people of Ogun State. We are committed to building a government that listens to the people, responds to their needs and ensures that no community is left behind in the development process,” she said.

She added that grassroots mobilisation and voter engagement would be crucial to the success of the Sowunmi-Kolapo running mate campaign.

Party supporters at the event described Dr. Sowunmi-Kolapo’s emergence as a significant boost to the PDP campaign, citing her professional achievements, leadership qualities and longstanding contributions to grassroots development. The party leadership expressed optimism that unity and sustained mobilisation would position the PDP strongly ahead of the 2027 governorship election in Ogun State.
