Former Chief Security Officer to late Head of State, General Sani Abacha, Major Hamza Al-Mustapha, has dismissed claims made by a retired Department of State Services (DSS) operative regarding the circumstances surrounding Abacha’s death, describing the account as false and misleading. Al-Mustapha insisted that the version of events contained in the former intelligence officer’s publication does not reflect what actually happened.

Speaking with journalists in Kaduna, Al-Mustapha reacted to statements reportedly made by former DSS operative, Mr. Amachree, concerning the late military ruler’s final moments. According to him, the claims published in the book were untrue and did not accurately represent the events surrounding Abacha’s death. He further alleged that the author had been influenced by other individuals to include the disputed account.

Al-Mustapha maintained that he possesses evidence capable of contradicting the allegations contained in the publication. According to him, CCTV recordings in his possession capture what transpired and contradict the version presented by the former DSS officer. He insisted that the published narrative should not be accepted as an accurate account of the late Head of State’s final moments.

The former presidential security chief urged Nigerians to disregard the claims, arguing that it was inappropriate to make what he described as false allegations against someone who was no longer alive to respond.

He maintained that the public should treat the account with caution, reiterating that the Al-Mustapha Abacha claim presented in the book does not reflect the facts as he knows them. The remarks add another chapter to the long-running public debate surrounding the death of General Sani Abacha, an issue that has continued to attract differing accounts decades after the former military ruler’s passing.
