Newly constructed roads across Abuja are opening up fresh areas for real estate development and investment, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has said.
Wike made the disclosure on Friday while inspecting the ongoing access road project to the FCT Fire Service Station in Kaura District. The project links Ring Road II with Oladipo Diya Way in Gaduwa and is expected to improve movement and connectivity within the rapidly developing communities.
The minister said developers were increasingly taking advantage of new road corridors as improved access makes previously less-developed areas more attractive for construction and investment. According to Wike, the expansion of infrastructure is already producing wider economic benefits across the FCT, including increased investment opportunities and employment for young people.
He described the Kaura access road as strategically important to the surrounding communities, saying its completion would significantly transform the physical landscape and stimulate economic activity. The project consists of one collector road, two local streets and a minor access road.
Wike expressed satisfaction with the progress recorded since his previous inspection, particularly the completion of the bridge component of the project. He said the first section of the road connects to the newly completed bridge but disclosed that the contractor had been directed to extend the corridor to Oladipo Diya Way.
“I have put big pressure on them that it will be very appropriate to also include the extensions so that it will be meaningful,” Wike said.
The minister said the proposed extension would make the infrastructure more useful to residents and businesses in the area. Despite the additional work, he said the contractor remained confident that the project would be completed within the agreed timeframe.
“They are still insisting that by December they will hand over the project,” Wike said, although he expressed uncertainty over whether the extension would be completed within the same timeline.
He said the completed project would substantially alter the topography and landscape of the area while improving accessibility to adjoining neighbourhoods.
Wike also assured the contractor of continued support from the FCT administration. He said the government would ensure that outstanding payments were processed promptly to enable the contractor to maintain the pace of construction.
“We are happy with the job they have carried out. We are going back to see that payments are made to them so they can expedite action,” he said.
The minister expressed confidence that the contractor would make every effort to meet the December completion target. The development comes as the FCT administration continues to expand road infrastructure into emerging districts, with Abuja road projects increasingly shaping the direction of property development and economic activity across the capital.
