APM Opens Defection Talks With Senators, Reps Ahead of 2027 Elections

The Allied People’s Movement (APM) has confirmed that it is engaging serving senators, members of the House of Representatives and other political leaders across Nigeria over possible defections, as APM defections 2027 discussions gather momentum ahead of the next general election.

The announcement comes amid increasing political realignments, with parties seeking to strengthen their structures ahead of the 2027 polls.

In a statement, the party said it has initiated discussions with elected lawmakers and influential political figures interested in joining its ranks before the general election.

According to the APM, the move follows enquiries from party supporters regarding reports of ongoing consultations.

“Sequel to enquiries from our teeming members and supporters, the Allied People’s Movement (APM) confirms that it is holding talks with serving senators and members of the House of Representatives and other like-minded political leaders from across the country, who are desirous of joining the APM ahead of the 2027 general elections.”

The party did not disclose the identities or number of lawmakers currently involved in the discussions.

The announcement coincided with the formal defection of Senator Mohammed Ogoshi Onawo from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the APM during Senate plenary.

Following the announcement, Onawo was received at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja by the National Chairman of the APM, Yusuf Mamman Dantalle, alongside other party officials.

The party described the senator as a seasoned grassroots politician with extensive legislative and leadership experience.

According to the APM, Onawo previously served two terms as Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, two terms as a member of the House of Representatives and currently represents Nasarawa South Senatorial District in the Senate.

The party said his public service record reflects the leadership qualities it seeks to promote.

Speaking on the party’s ambitions, National Chairman Yusuf Mamman Dantalle reiterated the APM’s determination to compete strongly in the forthcoming elections.

“Our commitment remains anchored on our slogan, ‘Nigeria First.’ We are determined to win the 2027 general elections, particularly the presidential election, so as to enthrone the right leadership to rebuild our nation and return her to the path of peace, unity and economic prosperity.”

The remarks underscore the party’s strategy to expand its political base through APM defections 2027 while positioning itself as a major contender in the presidential race.

In his remarks, Senator Onawo pledged his loyalty to the APM and expressed confidence in the party’s prospects ahead of the elections.

“I have an unwavering determination and commitment to work with other leaders to deliver victory for the APM not only in Nasarawa South Senatorial District but also across Nasarawa State, other states of the federation and in the presidential election.”

The party also reaffirmed its endorsement of Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde as its presidential candidate for the 2027 general election.

APM thanked its supporters nationwide and said it would continue strengthening its political structure through consultations and strategic alliances as preparations for the election gather pace.
