Kwankwaso Political Future Talks With NDC, PRP Leaders Confirmed

Discussions over Kwankwaso political future have intensified as former Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso confirmed he is consulting with leaders of the National Democratic Congress and the Peoples Redemption Party. The Kwankwaso political future consultations come amid ongoing legal and structural challenges within the African Democratic Congress, where he is currently a key stakeholder.

The Kwankwaso political future discussions are taking place against the backdrop of internal crises within the African Democratic Congress, including legal disputes over leadership and party structure. Recent court rulings have contributed to uncertainty within the party, raising questions about its stability ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Kwankwaso referenced the Supreme Court judgment which affirmed the legitimacy of the David Mark-led National Working Committee but returned aspects of the dispute to the Federal High Court. According to him, this outcome has left the party in a “precarious position.”

Additional legal developments, including a Federal High Court ruling that invalidated the party’s convention and a separate application by the Attorney General of the Federation seeking deregistration of the ADC, have further compounded the challenges facing the party.

These developments have contributed to ongoing consultations among political actors considering alternative platforms ahead of the next electoral cycle.

In a statement shared on his X account, Kwankwaso clarified that no final decision has been made regarding his political direction. “I wish to state categorically that no final decision has been taken regarding my political future or that of my political associates,” he said.

He confirmed that consultations are ongoing with multiple stakeholders, including leaders of the National Democratic Congress and the Peoples Redemption Party. “Consequently, like other major stakeholders, we have commenced wide-ranging consultations… including with leaders from the NDC, PRP and others,” he stated.

Kwankwaso also linked the current situation to earlier political experiences, noting that legal challenges previously influenced his departure from the New Nigeria Peoples Party. “We left the NNPP due to externally influenced legal problems… The ADC has now been also forced into this difficulty,” he added.

On speculation surrounding the 2027 presidential race, Kwankwaso stated that he has neither declared interest in contesting nor endorsed any candidate. He emphasised that the ADC has not yet zoned its presidential ticket or selected a candidate, describing ongoing speculation as premature.

The Kwankwaso political future consultations highlight ongoing realignments within Nigeria’s opposition political landscape ahead of the 2027 elections.

Engagements with multiple parties suggest a period of strategic positioning among political actors seeking viable platforms for participation in the next electoral cycle. The situation also reflects broader challenges within political parties, particularly regarding internal governance, legal disputes, and leadership stability.

For the electoral process, potential shifts in party affiliation among prominent figures may influence coalition-building efforts, candidate selection, and voter mobilisation strategies.
