Kwankwaso to Join ADC Monday as Movement Directs Members Nationwide

Kwankwaso to join ADC Monday as the Kwankwasiyya Movement announced that its national leader, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has concluded arrangements to formally defect to the African Democratic Congress ahead of the 2027 general elections. The planned registration is scheduled to take place on March 30, 2026, in Kano.

The development comes amid ongoing political realignments ahead of the 2027 elections, with opposition figures exploring new platforms and alliances.

The Kwankwasiyya Movement, which is led by Kwankwaso, has played a central role in mobilising political support, particularly in northern Nigeria.

Kwankwaso, a former governor of Kano State and presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, has remained a key figure in opposition politics.

His planned move to the ADC signals a shift in political alignment as parties reposition ahead of the next electoral cycle.

According to a statement issued by the spokesperson of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, Dr. Habibu Sale Mohammed, Kwankwaso to join ADC Monday follows the completion of all necessary arrangements for his defection.

“The Kwankwasiyya Movement wishes to formally inform all its members across Nigeria and the general public that our Supreme Leader, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has concluded all necessary arrangements to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC),” the statement read.

The statement further disclosed that Kwankwaso would formally register with the party at his residence, Gidan Kwankwasiyya, Miller Road, Kano, at 12 noon on Monday.

In addition, the movement directed all its members across the country to register with the ADC in their respective wards, local government areas, and states.

“Consequently, all members of the Kwankwasiyya Movement are hereby directed to proceed and register with the African Democratic Congress (ADC)… and contribute actively toward the growth, development, and success of the party,” the statement added.

The announcement that Kwankwaso to join ADC Monday reflects a strategic decision by the movement to align with a political platform ahead of the 2027 elections.

The statement described the decision as one taken “in the best interest of the movement, our state, and the nation at large,” adding that it reflects a commitment to democratic values and governance.

The directive to members nationwide suggests an effort to consolidate political structures within the ADC and strengthen its grassroots presence across Nigeria.

The development that Kwankwaso to join ADC Monday may influence the configuration of opposition politics ahead of the 2027 elections.

With a structured political base under the Kwankwasiyya Movement, Kwankwaso’s move could contribute to expanding the organisational reach of the ADC.

It also highlights ongoing political realignments as parties and political actors reposition for future electoral contests.

The directive for members to actively participate in party activities indicates a coordinated effort to integrate the movement into the ADC’s framework at all levels.
