Makinde-led PDP Unveils Turaki, Others in 13-Member Caretaker Committee

The Makinde-led PDP has formally unveiled a 13-member caretaker committee headed by Tanimu Turaki (SAN) to oversee the party’s affairs following a National Executive Committee meeting in Abuja. The move was approved as part of efforts to stabilise internal administration and manage ongoing leadership adjustments within the Peoples Democratic Party.

The Makinde-led PDP decision emerged from a National Executive Committee meeting attended by governors, party leaders, and members of the Board of Trustees. The meeting focused on addressing internal organisational challenges and ensuring continuity in party administration.

The PDP has in recent months faced internal disagreements over leadership structures and convention outcomes, leading to calls for interim arrangements to manage party operations. The Makinde-led PDP initiative is positioned as a response to these developments, aimed at maintaining administrative order within the party.

The formation of a caretaker structure is consistent with internal party mechanisms used to manage transitions and resolve disputes while broader reconciliation processes continue.

At the NEC meeting, the motion for the caretaker committee was moved by Edo State PDP Chairman Tony Aziegbemi and seconded by Clement Fagboyede, an ex-officio member of the party.

The Makinde-led PDP caretaker committee is chaired by Tanimu Turaki (SAN), who will lead a 13-member team tasked with overseeing party operations. Other members include Taofeek Arapaja as National Secretary, Daniel Ambrose, Hamza Abuya, Ihediwa, Isah Abubakar, Theophilus Dakashan, Ini Ememobong, Aribisala Adewale Idowu, Baru Shaffi, and Okechukwu Obiechina.

The meeting also had the participation of Governor Seyi Makinde and other senior party figures, reflecting broad internal engagement in the decision-making process.

The Makinde-led PDP caretaker arrangement is expected to handle coordination of party activities, internal administration, and preparation for future political engagements pending further structural decisions.

The Makinde-led PDP caretaker committee signals an effort to maintain stability within the party during a period of internal adjustment. By establishing an interim structure, the party aims to ensure continuity in decision-making and organisational management.

The development may also serve as a step toward reconciling differing factions within the PDP, as stakeholders work toward resolving leadership and structural disputes. In practical terms, the initiative is expected to influence how the party manages internal coordination ahead of future elections and political activities.
