The Tinubu credentials submitted for the 2027 presidential election have been placed on public display by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as part of the nomination process for the forthcoming general election. The exercise, which commenced on Saturday, features the personal particulars, academic qualifications and supporting documents submitted by President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and his running mate, Vice President Kashim Shettima.
Documents contained in Form EC9 show that President Tinubu submitted a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Chicago State University, United States. According to the transcript attached to the nomination form, the degree was awarded with honours on June 22, 1979. The documents also include his National Youth Service Corps discharge certificate, indicating he served in Oyo State between December 1982 and November 1983.
His employment history lists Mobil Nigeria Limited, where he worked from 1983 to 1992 before leaving for career advancement. It also records his tenure as Governor of Lagos State from 1999 to 2007 and his current position with the Federal Government, beginning in 2023.
The form states his date of birth as March 29, 1952, lists Lagos as his place of birth, identifies his occupation as “politician” and gives his residential address as No. 4, Queen’s Drive, Ikoyi. The Tinubu credentials displayed also show “0000” in the sections covering his primary and secondary education years, while only his university qualification obtained in 1979 is specified.
Vice President Kashim Shettima’s submitted records trace his educational journey from primary school through postgraduate studies.
His Certificate of Primary Education shows he attended Lamisula I Primary School between 1972 and 1978, where he graduated second in a class of 22 pupils. English, History and Religious Knowledge were listed among his strongest subjects. His West African Examinations Council result from Government Secondary School, Potiskum, records six credits and passes, including distinctions in Religious Knowledge and Economics.
Shettima also submitted records showing he obtained a Second Class Upper degree in Agriculture from the University of Maiduguri in August 1989 before earning a Master of Science in Agricultural Economics from the University of Ibadan. His NYSC discharge certificate indicates he completed national service between October 1989 and October 1990.
INEC stated that the publication of Form EC9 is a statutory requirement under Section 29(3) of the Electoral Act, 2026. According to the commission, Form EC9 contains the credentials, personal particulars and affidavits submitted by candidates nominated by political parties. The documents have been displayed at INEC offices across the country, including state headquarters and local government offices in relevant constituencies.
The Electoral Act also allows members of the public to apply for certified true copies of nomination documents and seek legal redress where there are allegations of false declaration or forgery. Campaigns for the presidential and National Assembly elections are scheduled to commence on August 19, while governorship and state assembly campaigns will begin later in accordance with INEC’s revised election timetable.
