ADC Eagle Square Dispute Deepens as Wike Denies Application for Venue

ADC Eagle Square dispute intensified after Nyesom Wike stated that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) did not submit any formal application to use Eagle Square, contradicting the party’s claim that it was denied access to the venue.

The disagreement follows earlier claims by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) that it had been denied access to Eagle Square and the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja for its planned national convention.

Eagle Square, a major national event ground located in the Federal Capital Territory, is commonly used for political gatherings, national ceremonies, and public events. Access to the venue typically requires formal application and approval through the appropriate authorities under the Federal Capital Territory Administration.

The dispute has drawn attention due to its timing, as political parties intensify preparations ahead of internal conventions and broader realignments linked to the 2027 general elections. Addressing the issue, Wike clarified that no official request was received from the ADC for the use of Eagle Square.

He stated that access to such public facilities is governed by established procedures, including formal written applications, which must be submitted and processed before approval can be granted. According to him, the absence of any formal communication from the party means there was no basis for approving or denying the request.

Wike’s position directly contrasts with the ADC’s earlier assertion that it was denied access to the venue for its convention, raising questions about the sequence of communication between the party and relevant authorities.

The FCT administration maintains that official channels must be followed for the use of public infrastructure, emphasizing that reliance on informal communication or public statements does not substitute for documented applications.

The ADC Eagle Square dispute highlights procedural and communication challenges between political parties and government authorities regarding access to public venues. It also reflects the broader importance of compliance with administrative processes in the conduct of political activities, particularly as parties prepare for conventions and internal decision-making processes.

The development may influence how political parties approach event planning, documentation, and engagement with regulatory authorities in the Federal Capital Territory.
