Osun 2026: APC, Adeleke Exchange Sharp Words as Governorship Battle Heats Up

Political tensions have heightened in Osun State as the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) and Governor Ademola Adeleke exchanged criticisms ahead of the August 15 governorship election in the state.

The APC accused Governor Adeleke of mismanaging the state’s finances and favouring his hometown in the recruitment of teachers.

In a statement issued by the party’s Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, the party alleged that out of 876 teachers recruited by the state government, 88 positions were allocated to Ede, the governor’s hometown, while other towns received fewer slots.

The party also claimed that among 38 education officers recruited, six positions were allocated to Ede, describing the distribution as unfair across the state’s local government areas.

According to the APC, the figures suggest a lack of equitable distribution in the recruitment exercise.

Responding to the allegations, Governor Adeleke’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, defended the administration’s performance and said the governor deserves a second term in office.

The spokesperson highlighted achievements recorded by the government in several sectors of the state’s economy.

According to the governor’s aide, the administration has implemented major infrastructure projects, improved workers’ welfare, and made progress in education and healthcare.

He stated that the government also improved the state’s ranking in national examinations from 33rd position to 7th.

The spokesperson further said that the administration has reconstructed more than 200 health centres equipped with solar power and water facilities and rehabilitated about 150 schools across the state.

He added that the government completed several projects at Osun State University, secured final national medical accreditation, and supported the establishment of University of Ilesa.

Rasheed also stated that the administration has maintained compliance with procurement regulations, ensured equitable distribution of infrastructure, and upheld financial accountability.

He described the government’s approach as inclusive and focused on sustainable development across the stat
