The City Boy Movement has entered a strategic partnership with the Federal Capital Territory chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as both groups intensify grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The alliance is expected to drive voter registration, youth engagement and community-based political participation, with an ambitious target of recruiting more than 42,000 City Boy Movement volunteers across the FCT. The partnership was formally unveiled during a courtesy visit by the movement’s leadership to the FCT APC State Office in Abuja.
Speaking during the engagement, FCT Director and Coordinator of the City Boy Movement, Mr. Bitrus Garki, said the organisation was expanding its operational structure across all 2,822 polling units in the territory. According to him, the recruitment drive for City Boy Movement volunteers is designed to strengthen grassroots participation while supporting the APC’s electoral strategy ahead of future elections.
Garki emphasized that the movement remains a political support group and not a political party, noting that its mission is to promote the ideals and programmes associated with President Bola Tinubu and the APC. He explained that the volunteer network would serve multiple purposes, including voter education, community mobilisation, civic engagement and support for future social intervention initiatives.
As part of the collaboration, Garki outlined a seven-point framework aimed at deepening political participation throughout the FCT. The proposed areas of cooperation include: joint voter registration campaigns, youth leadership development, grassroots mobilisation, community outreach programmes, digital advocacy initiatives, political sensitisation efforts, strategic engagement at polling-unit level
He said the growing network of City Boy Movement volunteers would help ensure stronger interaction between citizens and party structures across urban and rural communities.
Beyond political mobilisation, the movement announced plans to implement community-focused projects across the FCT. Garki disclosed that 1,000 residents are expected to benefit from an empowerment programme scheduled for July 14.
He also revealed plans for a Community Impact Project that will provide solar-powered streetlights and healthcare interventions in the FCT’s 62 political wards. According to him, these initiatives are intended to improve living conditions while strengthening community participation in governance and development programmes.
Responding to the initiative, FCT APC Chairman Mr. Ishaku Yamawo welcomed the partnership and described the mobilisation strategy as a positive contribution to the party’s preparations for future elections. However, he urged the movement to extend its activities beyond major urban centres and focus more heavily on rural communities.
Yamawo stressed that voter registration and political engagement remain most critical in area councils, wards and polling units where many eligible voters are yet to be fully integrated into the electoral process. He noted that grassroots mobilisation often requires significant logistical support and expressed confidence that the City Boy Movement could complement existing party efforts.
The FCT APC Women Leader, Hajiya Faridah Odangi, highlighted the strategic importance of the territory in the 2027 elections. She described FCT voters as politically conscious and encouraged sustained engagement with communities through empowerment initiatives and direct interaction.
Odangi said development programmes should reach ordinary residents at the grassroots to strengthen public confidence and participation. Similarly, the FCT APC Secretary, Mr. Ibrahim Kuje, urged the movement to work closely with existing party structures.
According to him, electoral victories are ultimately determined by effective engagement at the local level, regardless of the size of any national network. He stressed that successful political mobilisation depends on practical organisation within wards and polling units where voters cast their ballots.
The event attracted several party leaders and stakeholders, including the National Coordinator of the City Boy Movement, Mr. Mukhtar Akoshile. A symbolic highlight of the gathering was the decoration of top FCT APC officials, including the chairman, secretary and women leader, with customised caps and sashes bearing the movement’s insignia.
The partnership between the APC and the City Boy Movement signals an early push toward extensive grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 elections. With plans to recruit more than 42,000 City Boy Movement volunteers, launch empowerment programmes and expand voter registration campaigns across 2,822 polling units, both groups are positioning themselves for a broad-based political engagement strategy in the Federal Capital Territory.
