Dickson Meets Obi, Calls for Unity as NDC Leaders Resolve Internal Concerns

Senator Seriake Dickson has disclosed details of a private meeting with Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate Peter Obi, saying both leaders resolved recent concerns within the party and agreed on the need for greater unity ahead of future political contests. The meeting came amid discussions surrounding comments made by Dickson regarding attacks allegedly directed at him by some supporters of the former Anambra State governor.

According to the Bayelsa West senator, Obi visited him alongside several senior figures of the party for a closed-door engagement that lasted approximately three hours.

The meeting followed recent tensions within sections of the party after Dickson publicly expressed concerns about criticism from some supporters despite what he described as a shared commitment to the party’s objectives Speaking after the engagement, Dickson said discussions centred on party affairs and issues that had generated concerns among stakeholders.

Providing an update on the outcome of the meeting, Dickson stated that all contentious matters were thoroughly discussed and resolved amicably.

“I just received my brother, colleague, and partner in the New Nigerian Project, His Excellency Mr. Peter Gregory Obi, CON, our presidential candidate, who, together with some distinguished leaders of our party, held a closed-door meeting which lasted about three hours,” he said. According to him, the discussions reviewed recent developments within the party and focused on maintaining cohesion among members.

Dickson stressed that both he and Obi remain committed to the broader objective of strengthening the NDC and positioning it as a viable political alternative. He noted that their shared goal has always been to secure electoral victories for party candidates and provide Nigerians with an alternative platform to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

While acknowledging that disagreements are normal within political organisations, Dickson said party leaders had reached an understanding on how future concerns should be handled. The lawmaker used the opportunity to urge members to avoid unnecessary conflicts and remain focused on the party’s long-term mission.

“I want to use this opportunity again to call on all members of our party to stop the bickering and name-calling and focus on the bigger picture,” he said.

Dickson assured party supporters that consultations between Obi, himself and other stakeholders would continue as part of efforts to strengthen internal unity and address concerns as they arise. He maintained that the party leadership remains committed to building cohesion and advancing what he described as a collective mission to provide a better future for Nigerians.
