Bauchi APC Caucus Rejects Bala Mohammed Admission

The Bauchi State caucus of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially rejected Governor Bala Mohammed admission (proposed) into the party.

The caucus made this position known following a meeting in Abuja on Tuesday night, signaling clear resistance to integrating the governor into the party ranks at this time.

The move comes after reports that Bala Mohammed had indicated plans on March 31, 2026, to defect to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Following this disclosure, the National Chairman of APC, Nentawe Yilwatda, and Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, reportedly visited the Bauchi Government House in a bid to engage Mohammed in discussions about joining the APC instead.

Although no press statements were made immediately after the meeting, sources suggested the visit aimed to persuade Mohammed to reconsider his plan to join the ADC and align with the APC.

Despite these engagements, the Bauchi APC caucus has remained firm in rejecting his admission.

Speaking after the caucus meeting, Senator Sama’ila Dahuwa, representing Bauchi North Senatorial District and Chairman of the Bauchi APC caucus, said the members “unequivocally reject Bala Mohammed admission into the party at this time.”

The caucus highlighted concerns that the governor had made public statements critical of both President Bola Tinubu and the APC, remarks that were seen as undermining party unity.

Dahuwa noted that the governor had neither retracted these statements nor taken steps for reconciliation.

“In view of the foregoing, the caucus firmly holds that Bala Mohammed admission into the APC will be detrimental to the party’s cohesion, credibility, and electoral prospects in Bauchi State,” he stated.

The caucus also criticized the lack of consultation with key APC stakeholders in Bauchi, calling it inconsistent with principles of internal democracy and inclusiveness.

The position will be formally communicated to the APC national leadership, with a demand for strict adherence to due process.

Meanwhile, indications suggest Bala Mohammed has slowed down on his reported defection to the ADC and has been holding consultations with loyalists and stakeholders within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Bauchi.

A state PDP stakeholders meeting on April 4, 2026, established an exit committee chaired by Deputy Governor Auwal Jatau to review the party’s political strategy amid the governor’s potential defection.

The committee includes representatives from the National Assembly, State Assembly, commissioners, party executives, and local government chairmen.

The committee will present recommendations at a subsequent stakeholders’ meeting before any final decisions are taken.

The development highlights the complex political realignments in Bauchi State ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Bala Mohammed admission into APC remains a contentious issue, with party cohesion and stakeholder consultation central to ongoing discussions.
