Wike Says Senator Ireti Kingibe Will Not Return to Senate in 2027

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, said on Monday in Abuja that Senator Ireti Kingibe will not return to the Senate in the 2027 general elections, the minister said during a media briefing in the nation’s capital.

Senator Ireti Kingibe represents the Federal Capital Territory in the Senate. She was elected in 2023 on the platform of the Labour Party. The comments by Wike come amid ongoing public and political exchanges between the minister and the senator over several issues affecting the FCT.

Wike said Kingibe would not return to the Senate in 2027, saying she had “no project to show” for her tenure and linking that to his prediction about her political future. He reiterated similar comments he had made publicly in previous statements.

Wike also said that Kingibe had been largely absent from satellite communities, which he described as areas with high voter turnout.

The minister’s remarks came during a media interaction where he defended his activities in the FCT and addressed related criticisms.

Wike said, “I had said it more than one year ago, Senator Ireti, you won’t come back as a senator. That’s why you people don’t like people who tell you the truth. It’s bitter. Let her show one project.”

He also said, “She is not there. Go to the satellite towns where the real voters are. She is not there.”

Wike’s statement contributes to public and political discourse ahead of the 2027 general elections and highlights disagreements between federal officials and members of the National Assembly representing the Federal Capital Territory.

Such exchanges are part of broader political engagement ahead of electoral contests nationwide.
